Scale Factor Method
Scale factor was needed in this project to get prices for the imaginary real life model of our road sign. We measured the dimensions of the in-class road sign and had to come up with a ratio to project what we created to a size that mirrored that of signs in real life.
Our in-class sign's dimensions were 30 cm (height) by 15 cm (length of top bar)
Our in-class sign's dimensions were 30 cm (height) by 15 cm (length of top bar)
We wanted our real sign to be in feet so we had to convert centimeters to inches. 1 inch = 2.54 cm
For our scale factor we chose for every 2 inches, it would be 5 feet in real life.
For our scale factor we chose for every 2 inches, it would be 5 feet in real life.
Now all we had to do was enter our in-class design's dimensions, cross multiply, solve for 'x' feet, and we'd have our real life dimension!
