Presenting Tips: Importance of a Public Speaking
After the class is done with designing our projects, we are graded on our work and we need to present all the information we came up with/researched. We are graded on the content as well as how well we present it.
Here are some key points I've found that you need to make sure to keep your audience captivated:
Here are some key points I've found that you need to make sure to keep your audience captivated:
- Be polite! Greet the crowd, introduce yourself, and make sure to smile.
- Include pictures, pictures, pictures! Make sure they are clear, colorful, and relevant to your topic
- Keep a sweeping eye contact! Look at a couple people in the audience and change every few seconds. It keeps their attention as well as makes your head stay up, allowing for better voice projection.
- Use a loud voice! If people can't hear you clearly, they tend to not pay attention to what you have to say.
- Prepare! Rehearse what you're going to say so you don't fumble for words. "Ummm..." "Uh..." "...things..." are common favorites.
- Move around! People will more likely pay attention to moving objects rather than a stationary, monotonous voice.
- Questions? Make sure to get your audience involved- see if they understand what you're saying by allowing questions to be asked
