Egg Drop Project
For this project I worked with three other people. We needed to research ways of protecting precious goods. We were encouraged to look at car designs, bicycle helmets, packaging boxes, and other things of that sort. Our task was to design and construct a container to protect an egg from a very high drop. My group came up with a box-like structure. We used recycled materials. We got a small cardboard box, lined it with bubble wrap, hot glued pieces of foam to the outside of the box on all sides, and cut a piece of foam to stick inside the box that would surround the egg. We knew we needed to build something that would absorb the impact of the drop and cushion the egg the whole time. The class built a variety of different designs. On testing day, our box worked! The egg was unharmed. Groups that did not put enough padding in their design had cracks in their egg or even a completely destroyed egg. This project was a pretty easy, fun project.
